Tannheimer Valley – Week 3

We had a great time at the Tannheimer Valley. We have been here for three weeks and it was pure luxury for us that we did not have to move. So we could do more… And also in our third week we experienced a lot… Nearly until the last minute of our stay… First we had much work to edit all our events from the week before. I suffered from a lumbago which held me back somehow. Bureaucracy needed some attendance, too. Have you ever tried to cancel a contract? And? Did you succeed with one notice? Or did they keep on charging you as if nothing would have happened??? Exactly. That’s what we experience right now! But then we went on. We started with culinary arts and were allowed to have a look into the crowned pots in the kitchen of Hotel Hohenfels. It is always so nice to

Tannheimer Valley – Week 2

Also the second week at the Tannheimer Valley was not boring at all – quite the contrary. We went again winter hiking. This time not in high altitude but right away from the hotel. We went to lake Vilsalp (Vilsalpsee) and took the path through the wood where we had to trudge through the snow. On our way there was so much to be seen in the beautiful winter landscape. We again needed twice as long as announced. At the lake we bathed in the sunshine on the huge terrace. For the way back we took a horse-drawn carriage. Slow travel at its best. And food was great by the way. Then we had a social media workshop which has been very productive. We really liked that some of the ideas produced where right away installed and tried out. There is now a social wall for the Tannheimer Valley for

Tannheimer Valley in Tirol

After a veeeeeeeery slow snow travel we arrived in the evening at Tannheimer Valley (Tannheimer Tal). Actually we had planned to relax a bit after the exhausting Tourismcamp weekend at Eichstätt and the quite exhausting drive. But then the phone rang and we learned that we could go for a hot air balloon ride. Great! What is a better way to relax than to go on such a ride? And we directly got to know the whole valley from above! After that we went to the view point Zugspitzblick (Zugspitze view). We have not really seen the mountain but some heavy deer. Because there is a wildlife observation. And you get great regional food! The next day we edited photos and blog posts and did some office work. But then the sun was calling us out and went again to the Zugspitzblick. After that we went by car to explore the valley

Gasteiner Valley in Winter

This week we spent at Gasteiner Valley. A new region for us. And also new: with snow! We stayed at the Johannesbad Hotel Palace in Bad Hofgastein, which is a former health resort but still has a therapy department and a brine room. The brine room was perfect for us because we both had caught a cold… When there is snow we must take snow photos… Therefore we walked to the Waldgasthof. It is not far away from the slopes and you even have to walk a bit over the slopes. You have to be careful not to be overrun. At the Waldgasthof culinary arts was the topic. We could shoot some yummy stuff and eat it afterwards. A specialty was a menu which has been created by a star cook especially for this hut. It is called ski chef caps. Such an excellent cooking was a nice difference to the normally

Saalach Valley in Winter

We already have been during autumn at the wonderful Saalach Valley at Salzburgland. And now we were for the second time here in winter. We stayed at Hotel Mühlpointhof in Lofer in a huge apartment. Here in the valley everything got nice white powder on it. Thematically we stayed with old traditions. We visited another Perchten Run in Salzburgland. The third in our life. The two others did not really convince us. This time it was a bigger run: The Pongau Perchten Run – in Bischofshofen. Here there were more ‘beautiful Perchten’ than ‘ugly Perchten’. Unfortunately there was no moderation with explanations this time. For quite a lot of figures and costumes we would have loved to have more information about what they represent. So if you happen to know more please let us know via comment. It was striking that only men were involved and that there were partly very

Christmas and New Year without Snow in Tennengau

After two wonderful concept hotels we went to a destination again: Tennengau in Salzburg Land. Like many other destinations in Salzburg Land winter is all about holidays in the snow, which refuses to come somehow this year. But there are other things to do… Moving in three days before Christmas means there is only one subject: Christmas market! We already had been to the mountain advent in Großarl and the very day we arrived in Abtenau the local christmas market took place there. So we directly went there. There you could get really nice things, a lot of handicraft and of course culinary arts. At one booth a woman was spinning and we ate the best frensh toast from Salzburg Land. Unfortunately the market is only open for a couple of days. Doesn’t matter. There are other christmas markets. For example some in down town Salzburg. The Christkindl Market at

Hotel Kristall Großarl

Hotel Kristall in Großarl

Once again we have been booked by a hotel directly: from Hotel Kristall in Großarl. To be booked by a hotel means a hell of a lot of hotel photos and also means that our car will not be moved for a whole week. Something different for a change. Hotel Kristall has rebuild and extended their building so that photos were needed from the new restaurant and lobby area as well as from the new rooms. Because family Hettegger new our shooting method a lot of things have been perfectly prepared and so the shooting went quite smoothly and quickly. Anyway. There has still been enough time to visit the Salzburg mountain advent and also walk the chapel hiking path. At the mountain advent in Großarl the village center becomes a christmas market. Everywhere there are huts where handmade things and culinary varieties can be admired and be purchased as well

Das kleinHotel in Biedenkopf

The kleinHotel in Biedenkopf – Refreshingly Different

Last week we were lucky to learn about a new concept: “mein kleinHotel” in Biedenkopf. A hotel where the different rooms are located in modules in the garden. Or rather apartments instead of rooms, because there is always a kitchenette included. In the big module, where we stayed there is even a living room with a couch. From the very first minute in the module we felt at home. Also the welcome from the hotel owner was very warm. The kleinHotel is family run and for breakfast you go into the private house. On Monday we took a tour around Biedenkopf together with very nice friends which visited us in Biedenkopf. – Yes, you can meet us! Have a look at our tour plan! – We started directly in front of the hotel and walked the Kottenbachway. A round trip in beautiful nature. The weather was really nice and so we

Hotel St. Fridolin – really different

We are on the road again. Finally! There was already something missing. But we have to admit that October and November have been quite rough for us. Though the days with our friends were really nice, they have been too short for us to revive. Achim is recovering slowly from his stay in hospital which had some aftereffects though it lasted only two nights. We started with the hotel St. Fridolin in Bad Säckingen, which is at the Swiss border. You look towards Switzerland from the hotel and also to the river Rhine. We had a huge apartment, which was also barrier-free. It was very comfortable for us to have so much space for our stuff. Apart from that we really enjoyed our stay at this special hotel. The hotel is integrative which means that half of the employees is different. Really different! As the hotel puts it. The slogan fits: Breakfast is

Pit Stop – Part 2

In the mean time Achim has survived the second surgery. Everything went well and he is slowly recovering. The month of November was quite emotional with some drastic events (see pit stop part 1). Waiting for the results of the surgery. Completely emptying the house. Giving away last things. Being without a residence. All the paper work for signing off and terminating contracts. Unfortunately this does not work at the first correspondence. You can quickly sing in for something but it is very difficult to sing off. It gets even more interesting when you have to get money back for example from the local energy supplier. They have a lot of time, but when you owe them then they contact you very quickly. Let’s see how long it will take until everything is cleared… Part Two took place in Germany. Again very emotional with a hospital stay and all actions
