The Countdown is on

The clock is ticking and the Big Day is getting nearer.

On May 17 we will start our waltzing 2.0 and it is very exciting. The other day we reached the point of no return and cancelled the contract for our rented house. A huge step!

We are very busy now sorting all our stuff. Every single item that we touch now is valued. Will it join us at our waltzing? Will it be sold or given away? I would love to put a sticker on every bit at the moment so that I do not have to remember to which category I have put this specific object before. And sometimes of course we change our mind. Especially after talking about it. “Will you give your records away?” “Yes of course!” “But wouldn't you like to keep your first self recorded LP?” “Now that you mention it. Of course not!” And so it goes…

I have read a lot about people that gave everything away or sold their complete household like 100things  and I always thought: Sounds great! But now that we actually do it it is a completely different thing. To give away things that hold memories is very very difficult. Presents we got at our wedding or from dear friends. Stuff that moved with us several times and we kept it though they did not really fit into the new house or had no right place. But still there were the memories…

When we sell the stuff or give it away for free it helps to see how much the new owner appreciates it. I had very nice encounters the last days and I hope there will be much more. I am happy that some things will be used now when we only have stored them in the garage. But then there is one small item and – bang – it hits you with full force and tears are running.

One thing is certain: We will keep more than 100 items. Some boxes will be stored while we are on our way. And one very old table and two chairs. The rest will go. A lot is already sorted – some have to be screened…
