Gasteiner Valley in Winter

This week we spent at Gasteiner Valley. A new region for us. And also new: with snow!

We stayed at the Johannesbad Hotel Palace in Bad Hofgastein, which is a former health resort but still has a therapy department and a brine room. The brine room was perfect for us because we both had caught a cold…

When there is snow we must take snow photos… Therefore we walked to the Waldgasthof. It is not far away from the slopes and you even have to walk a bit over the slopes. You have to be careful not to be overrun.

At the Waldgasthof culinary arts was the topic. We could shoot some yummy stuff and eat it afterwards. A specialty was a menu which has been created by a star cook especially for this hut. It is called ski chef caps. Such an excellent cooking was a nice difference to the normally served hut food with french fries and co. We recommend it!

As we wanted to walk back there was nearly a blizzard. We drove via Dorfgastein and visited the waterfall in the middle of the village. Fascinating!

Another great event was the summit breakfast. With the cable car you drive up to the mountain before it is officially open. First you walk up to the top. For me it was extremely difficult. I slipped and slided because my winter shoes dissolved. It was very cold and windy and we were all happy that we were expected after the descent at the panorama bowl with an opulent breakfast. It was a fantastic event!

If you wish you can ski down or – as we did – go down by cable car. For me it was shoe shopping first! The old ones I left in the shop.

With new shoes we went to the Kötschach Valley. Here exists no ski region but pure nature. We walked a little bit along a hiking path and the view was stunning. Here it is all peace and quiet. Unfortunately the restaurant had a day off. If would have been a perfekt destination.

Finally we went up to the Stubnerkogel. From the top you have a georgeous view over the vally and over a lot of slopes. But here are not only ski lifts but also the highest suspension bridge. Again it was very cold and windy so that we did not spend much time on the bridge. Amazing that the bridge was open with that wind. But it did not move very much…

Unfortunately Achim's cold developed into a bad sinus infection so that he had to see a spa doctor. But with the right medication he should be better soon..

Again one week full of events and impressions. Each region is just special…
