A visit to the Nationalparkworlds

We have visited the Nationalparkworlds in Mittersill.

Nationalparkzentrum Mitreisen

As you walk in there is a huge model of the Großglockner. Very impressive. You can see the different ways to climb up the mountain. I would have loved to see little tiny figures to show the proportions and the exact way to the top.

At the information centre you get – as the name implies – a lot of information. About plants, animals, glaciers, avalanches, alps, history, minerals, sagas, and much more.

Tell us about information overkill. At the nationalparkworlds you get really much of it. Okay! There are ten worlds!

If you have enough of all the information you can relax at the alpine pasture. Some really do take a nap there. How funny! But it is very soothing. The noises from the alps are lifelike and right beside you lies a cow. Thank god there are no olfactory impressions, optical, visual and haptic impressions are enough.

Talking about haptic. At the nationalparkworlds you may touch, press or pull a lot and try things out.

I would have loved to climb into the marmots burrow but I was afraid I might get stuck with a lumbago. How embarrassing this would have been. Let’s leave that to the kids… I could try enough other things. See how plants look underground or take a selfie with the Venedigermandl. Admire minerals or let marmots whistle.

One cool thing is to put the wheel of history into reverse (who would not want that?) and to watch how the glacier changed during thousands of years. I would not have thought that the changes were so big. As my birth year was on the scala – thanks for that – I had to try it.

The avalanche dom at first ist all about water and later about avalanches. But then it is even more powerful. I would be interested in a making of and would love to know whether it was a natural avalanche or an explosion.

One can easily spend a whole day at the nationalparkworlds as there is also a restaurant if you get hungry in between and a shop with nice regional products where you can find a souvenir. What else do you need?
