Bochum. The town who's postal code has been on a record cover. And where since ages they show a musical on roller-skates. And the town where supposedly you can get the best curry wurst. At least there exists a song from Herbert Grönemeyer about it.
We have been there and had a look around.
As it has been quite hot, we went to an ice cream parlour first. It was kind of rustic. There have been old used rag-tag furniture and a long queue. The types of ice cream were somehow special like ‚cucumber‘ or ‚pumpkin seed‘. And – also unusual – each type had its own price. So there is no standard price for every scoop. But it tasted very good.
Afterwards we strolled through the city. It is very green. There are old trees. Alley ways. We discovered a public book case and a extraordinary tower.
If you do not want to walk you can get a rental bike at a street corner and cycle through the area. The urban quarters – which are called ‚Kiez‘ – are quiet, shadowy and there are enough parking places. Even at no charge.
After our sightseeing we went to the lake „Kemnader See“. Here you can see not only a lot of water but also many many water birds.
You can walk along the lakeside or cycle – or – and that is rare – you can skate along. At the lake you will find three different lanes. One for pedestrians, one for bicycles and one for skaters. Sometimes they have to share a lane for a couple of meters. But that is no problem.
You can also enjoy time on the water by sail boat or SUP or rowing boat or kayak. Does not matter. If you like it convenient you can go by passenger ship.
But whatever you do, whether you get physically active or go by ship, eventually you need something to drink or a snack. Your have several possibilities here. There is a marina bar. Or you can have a picknick. Or you to the ‚Stranddeck‘.
There is even a sandy beach with a bar. And palm trees. This really feels like beach. You can get cocktails and deck chairs and while digging your toes into the sand you listen to nice lounge music. Here you can relax and enjoy yourself.
In case you need more action you could try the ‚Bermudadreieck‘. The party area of Bochum. Here you will find one restaurant or pub after the other with huge beer gardens and many offers. And here you get supposedly the best currywurst of the whole Ruhr District. Of course we had to try!
But we are also overwhelmed by the different culinary specialities and possibilities and we choose Persian food. Where else can you get so many different typical national cuisine? And nights are long at the ‚Bermudadreieck‘.
A whole day in Bochum? No problem!
