Week 45: Saxonian Switzerland

From the Azores we went more on less directly to Saxon Switzerland. So at 3 o’clock in the morning the alarm clock rang and we drove with our rental car to the airport. Then we flew to Frankfurt where we landed at 1.30 pm. We went on by train to Siegburg because we have parked our car in Hennef. And finally after a couple of hours driving we arrived in Rathen. That was so far our longest journey… We already had been in October in Saxon Switzerland but we did not have very nice weather. This time we wanted to see the famous rocks. Monday we needed time to arrive, do some paperwork and in the afternoon we had our meeting to plan and organize the program for the next two weeks – just how we love it. Tuesday we discovered Rathen. There is a Oberrathen and a Niederrathen. Those

Week 44: Sao Miguel one of the Azores Islands

After one week on Madeira we went to Sao Miguel, one of the nine Azores Islands. We flew with Azores Airlines with a small prop airliner. The flight only takes two hours and starting from Madeira gave us a spectacular view over the island. This time we had already checked in online and therefore had nice window seats. Unfortunately we had to pay for our overweight luggage. Though the airplane has only been half full… We had to pay 24 Euros for 6 kilos. The airport on Sao Miguel is as small as the one in Funchal on Madeira. Our luggage came quite fast and we got again our rental car quickly. The stuff member of the rental car company did a car inspection together with us. The car was full of scratches…. Funny enough we got a message right after arrival that friends were in Ponta Delgada with a

Week 43: One Week on Madeira with Olimar Travel

Our 43rd week of waltzing we spent on the island Madeira. An absolute dream… But first things first. This time we could hardly drive by car. We had to fly. That meant that we had to reduce once again our amount of luggage. With your own car you tend to take some additional stuff with you. One small bag here and one pair of shoes fits in here. You have space. On the plane that does not work. Everyone has only one suitcase and one piece of hand luggage… That was somehow adventorous; but worked out in the end. Even Achim’s tripod fit in his suitcase. Though the suitcase afterwards was too heavy. But it works anyway. To the airport we went by train. The travel papers said that the train ride (rail & fly) would be included. So the day before our departure we went to fetch our tickets

Another pit stopp…

During the easter holidays we had two weeks free within our tour dates. We did not really try to fill those weeks but blocked them for another pit stopp. In November we did not really manage to do everything that we had planned. So we used this time to finish our tasks: We have a new website. Tadaaa! Our first website was developed before we started waltzing and was mainly about explaining the concept and do some advertising for our project. But now we are nearly one year on the road and there are so many photos that we want to show them. And there are more than 200 blog posts that have to be displayed in a different way. It really was time for something new. And when we are at the pit stopp we use the time for some other things as well. We had to do four

Week 39 – ITB Berlin

Our 39th waltzing week we used to visit for the second time the ITB in Berlin and to visit and meet  old friends Many of you offered us a bed and a stay whenever we have a gap in our tour dates so that we do not have to sleep under the bridge. A big thank you at this point four you all! In Berlin we had two offers for a stay; one from an old school friend from Achim and another one from a very nice person we met at a barcamp. So nothing could keeps us from visiting the ITB. Sunday is our changing day. So we arrived in the evening in Berlin and had a very nice evening with old friends https://twitter.com/DieMeurers/status/706878998895325184 On Monday we had some doctor’s appointment. Cheers for Berlin where you can get an appointment in very short notice when even our great doctor’s

Week 40: Active at Hotel Weinbergschlösschen

Our 40th week we spent for the second time at the hotel Weinbergschlösschen at the upper middle rhine valley. This time everything was about the hotel again. Family Lambrich has changed quite a bit of the hotel again and built a bright meeting room and changed the lobby into an entrance hall. But that was not enough. This week was also quite active. At the Weinbergschlösschen you can not only eat very well but you can also learn how to cook in their cooking school. So in this school you can watch how professionals cook, but you can also try it out yourself. In the end you can enjoy a four or five course meal that was prepared with some companions. At each place in the kitchen all needed ingredients are waiting. And after a glass of sparkling wine for relaxation work starts. One professional cook attends a small group

Waltzing Week 37: Country Hotel Kirchenwirt at Saalachtal

Our 37th week of waltzing we spent at the Kirchenwirt in Unken. We have been here already for two weeks when we were the to explore the Saalach valley. But this time it was all about the hotel itself. Contrary to the Lungau in Unken it looked more like spring. There was so much green to be seen. But we had only eyes for the house: We documented the breakfast in different variations. In the summer time it is arranged a little bit different than in winter times because then you can sit outside at the terrace. On the photo shooting list was also the cosy ‘Stüberl’. It was duffed a little bit for that. The spa was the next subject. Sauna, entrance, relaxation room with a wall made out of salt and a infrared cabin hat to be planned, discussed and of course to be photographed. Culinary arts were

Week 38: Cuddly Hotel Seewirt at Mattsee

This week we were again booked by a hotel: The romantic cuddly hotel Seewirt at Mattsee. We knew the hotel from earlier stays and jobs. The special thing about it: It is children free. Everything is aimed for couples to feel relaxed and romantic. At the agenda were a lot of small details and the surrounding of the hotel. So we did some photo shootings from different staff members: From the spa, kitchen, service, reception and so on. All caught during their work. But we also took pictures from the surrounding. What can be found near the hotel – in case you want to leave the hotel at all. After all it is called a cuddly hotel… And we took a walk around the lake and really did the 13 km around that it takes to walk around whole lake. This time the lake has still been in hibernation. That means

Holiday Apartment Mosergut at Lungau

We have been given to the holiday apartment Mosergut at Lungau. It was the first time for us that we have been a present. How does it work when the client is far away and the beneficiary does not know anything about us? Do they want us at all? How will they receive us? The secret about the present has been revealed some time before our arrival, so that we stood not completely unheralded in front of the door. And some information about us have also been forwarded. Because our job were just the three totally new holiday flats it was a quite relaxing week. Our outdoor activities have been limited somehow by the weather, but it was still interesting. Right after our arrival – even before we got our luggage out of the car – we did the photo shooting of the apartment where we stayed in. If we would have

Waltzing Week 35: Altenmarkt-Zauchensee

Week 35 of Waltzing we spent for Salzburger Land at the region Altenmarkt-Zauchensee. We stayed at the Hotel Barbarahof. A hotel right in the centre of Altenmarkt. For lunch and dinner we went to different huts or restaurants. As we arrived late in the afternoon after 5 hours of driving, we did not see much of the village on our arrival. Monday we had a first meeting with the tourism board and after that explored a little bit the surrounding to search for possible photo motifs. Tuesday we met the Flying Coach. That is a very nice idea. The Flying Coach is a Cross Country Skiing Teacher who gives a 30minute lesson in skiing and after that spends two hours on the slopes to give skiers tipps and hints. A really nice idea. We saw during the last weeks a lot of skiers who looked not very happy and might
