Deep Purple Live in Concert – Summer Nights Festival Sigmaringen

Yesterday evening we had the chance to see Deep Purple live in concert at the Summer Nights Festival in Sigmaringen. What can we say – the band is still a real smash. The musicians by now quite in retirement age are up there on stage and go full blast as if they had never aged. The festival lasts for two days and Deep Purple played at the second day as the headliner. Before them Alan Parson’s played – sigh – like back then at record player times… With the opener „Highway Star“ the five gentlemen stated clearly that they are still too young for the scrap heap. We were amazed how energetic the boys performed their songs. The set was a good mixture of old and new songs from the album „Now What?!“ I had for the first time in my live a photopass and was allowed to get very near

A Short Trip to France

After having looked over to France while admiring the georgeous sunset at the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse we finally managed to go there as well. From Freudenstadt it is just an one hour drive by car. You cross the river Rhine at Kehl and soon the whole picture changes: Different traffic signs and a different language. We drove a couple of minutes through a new building area but after that were already in the centre. To find a parking place was no problem at all. We found a place in the car park Austerlitz, which is well organized and even won a prize for that. Each parking deck is lit with a different colour. That is eye-catching and you can remember it easily. From the car park we had to go directly to a café. First of all a café au lait. You only get that in France. Unfortunately not in these nice

Uhren- und Automuseum Schramberg

About clocks, cars and other funny vehicles

We have been to the Clock and Car Museum in Schramberg and have been completely faszinated by all those unusual, unique and creative vehicles. What clocks have to do with cars you will learn at the museum. Four full floors in an old industrial building show all about mobility in the time after world war 2. Whether bicycle, moped, motorbike or three- or four-wheeled vehicle; it seems there were no boundaries for ideas at this time. You will see amazing coulours and forms. But there is also a lot information about live after the war. Therefore the museum is not only interesting for car lovers. Many allday live scenes are exposed like a hairdresser, a shop or just a living room. Pro-Tipp:  Bring enough time! Only a couple of meters away is the Car Collection Steim located. It is not about the vehicles of the man in the street. Here you find

Saftig bunte Wiesen - Wandern im Schwarzwald

Hiking through woods and meadows

We enjoy hiking and took our hiking shoes with us on our waltzing tour. So we were really pleased to find ready made hiking tours through the black forest. But somehow the hiking tours and we do not really get together. On Facebook you would say: The Meurers are in a relationship with Hiking Tours but it is complicated. On our first hiking adventure we got completely lost und could luckily without a machete fight our way back to a hiking trail. But we admit we made some mistakes: We went without the hiking booklet We relied on the hiking signs We believed it would be a consistent system We walked against the hiking direction So! Our fault! But maybe we are spoiled by other countries where you have one number and you follow this number the whole day long. But we do not give up! Our next „hike“ took place

Rauchkuchl: When culinary arts meet a rustic fireplace

You have to go to the Rauchkuchl they said. It’s an event. Okay!  So we went to Stuhlfelden. A nice little village with a small castle. (now a school) Beautiful. And there was a rustic old wooden house. Maybe it is Schwaigerlehen. No sign. No information. We parked our car anyway. A very old wooden door. A sign: 500 years organic farm. Thats it. We went in and heard a strong voice: „Oh hallo!“ A firm handshake. A stern look. Resi knows what she wants: „What do we say? “ „Monika and Achim“ „Well Achim, close that door I do not want to heat in vain!“ Bam! Resi is special. She looks very thoroughly for a producer for her food. Apart from that what she has herself in her garden or in the woods. And it is not a question of a certificate or standard. She looks at the personality. And if the

Hollersbach herbs herbal garden national parc Hohe Tauern

The herb woman from Hollersbach – the ‚Hollerhexe‘

We met Andrea for a tour through the herbal garden in Hollersbach. Andrea has a farm on her own and knows nearly everything about herbs and plants. We were very heartly welcome and Andrea showed us around and knew a story about nearly every herb. We chewed sage for detox. Hmmmmmm… But do not swallow! And lemon thyme! We smelled lemon thyme. Andrea uses it to make peace between her children when they have a fight with each other. She sends them to the garden to smell lemon thyme. When you smell it you know why… We saw comfrey and lady’s mantle and lemon balm. We smelled and chewed and tasted. And we learned how to pick nettles without pain. I can hardly repeat all the stories and anecdotes that Andrea told us. It was a very interesting tour with lots of stories and we had so much fun. And our tour with

Profession: Stonefinder

Who answers „stonefinder“ at the age of five when asked, what would you like to be when you grow up? The answers will rather be policeman or hairdresser. Not for the family Steiner. They live of stone finding now in the third generation. It all started when the oldest worked in his youth as a shepherd and started also to look for stones. Then he sold the stones to tourists passing by. His son was one day lost at the age of three. And the people looking for him found him sitting in front of a rock with a hammer. This was a clear career aspiration. But it was not alway easy. Climbing to the top of the mountains without shoes, because in former times one walked barefoot from easter until All Hallows. You were also told if you could not walk up the huge steps you could not come

Wollstadel Bramberg

The Wollstadel is a paradise for wool lovers

The Wollstadel in Bramberg is a paradise for all that are interested in sheepwool and its products. Here you can find wool in any colours but also handmade hats, jackets or special shoes. Felting We were invited to watch and learn about felting. The very fine preparated wool is placed on a model and after that is soaked with soap water. When the form is fixed you can remove the model and start felting by gently rubbing the wool with the soap water. This takes a while. When the piece is strong enough you can decorate it. We choose a capricorne which lives in the region but our star sign is also capricorne. And we added lambs and alpine flowers. Again you have to rub the wool with lot of soap water. Or you roll it with a giant Sushi-Mat. When the felt is strong enough you can rinse it

Gasthof Kröll Niedernsill smoked fish

Home made food at Gasthof Kröll Niedernsill

The owner of Gasthof Kröll in Niedernsill, Ralf Kröll, is a trained chef and loves not only to cook for his guests but also to prepare other delicacies like self baked bread or fresh cheese. We had the chance to watch him baking bread, smoking trouts and preparing fresh cheese. Baking Bread For the bread he had the dough prepared the night before. Again very early (v e r y early!) we watched him heat the oven. The oven is placed in a separate baking house in the middle of the huge ground and lovely garden of the Gasthof. There Ralf owns a baking oven, a smoking oven and a grill plate. The oven is stocked with wood to the rim and then a fire is started and may burn down for nearly two hours. In the mean time the trouts were prepared and hung in the smoking oven. And

Highmoor Mittersill

The Highmoor in Mittersill

After all these delicacies we longed for some nature and moving. The highmoor was suggested to us because you can also visit it without bright sunshine. So we went to see the highmoor. I thought it is called highmoor because it is high above the sea level. But no – it is a special form of moor. Just a highmoor. I won’t go into details. I would explain it wrong anyway. Instead we suggest you walk the way with the explanation boards. You learn everything. Wait! They are not in English, are they? Well there are some pictures. And maybe you have to search google or wikipedia. Anyway: Try the way through the highmoor. It is stunning. You start from Gasthof Tauernblick and walk through the gate. Then turn directly right and you will see the information centre. After that follow the cosy soft way with the wood chips. The
