Week 91: At the Aktivity Hotel

We drove in bright sunshine to our next hotel in Pirna. One of the shortest travels during Waltzing. The saved time we used to visit a ‘Carcassonne’ fan meeting at the Festung Königstein. Quite interesting that people play for hours at the old castle. There was much going on. Afterwards we had a walk through the snow. When the sun is finally shining… And then there has been a very special day within this week: We got our new waltzing vehicle. It was delivered on Tuesday and we sold our beloved “Touri” that accompanied us for 120.000 km and brought us to the most stunning places. Pah!! https://twitter.com/DieMeurers/status/831544653442928641 So now we have a new on. Twitter folk suggested that we call the new car “Matilda” according to ‘Waltzing Matilda’. That is a very nice name. And as ‘matilda’ carried the most precious belongings of the shearers in old times our

Week 90: At the Bastei

During our 90th week of waltzing we stayed at the Basteihotel. So we have been as near to the Bastei as possible. We were so excited thinking that we could go anytime to admire this stunning view… if the weather would have been playing along. Like while our first visit all the nice and beautiful rocks were hiding behind grey clouds. Only once there were some sunbeams visible at sunrise. So Achim quickly run to take some photos of it. But we have tried other activities than hiking. A discovery was dipping candles. That was a real delight. We did some photos of the rooms and the restaurant in the hotel. And we did some research on what coold be interesting for a book addict at Saxon Switzerland. I had to visit two doctors. The first was a dentist. And it was nothing serious. The pain came from the teethridge instead

Week 89: First week of Waltzing in 2017

Yeah! On the road again. Our holidays were really important and of course we both were ill. What would you expect. But we also had long walks, went to the cinema and to a music. Achim cooked a lot of dishes for us and we watched a lot of movies and tried to relax.   Right after that we went to the CMT in Stuttgart. The years before we have been to the ITB in Berlin, but for our project it was not really successful. Therefore we tried in 2017 the CMT. We liked the show. It was nice and manageable and during the week you have a lot of time at the different stands. We met a lot of people and had some interesting and quite lang conversations. Here you wont’t get disrupted that often like at the ITB during a talk. And we had the impression that

Week 77 and 78

Our 77th week lead us again to the Ruhr area. This time everything was – according to the season – about Christmas markets. So we spent nearly every day around the blue hour at one of the many many Christmas markets and had a look around what was offered. There were a historical market, mother Hulda shaking her pillow, the biggest Christmas Tree and a romantic net of lights. Additionally there were numerous booths full of interesting things and of course something to eat and drink. As supposed for a real Christmas Market… Here you can find our report: Christmas Markets in the Ruhr Area     But we have also been at the Ruhr wetlands. Early in the morning with a very nice light and mood at the outdoors.   And we have been ice skating at a very special an unusual place. At the old coke oven plant at

Week 74 – 76: Großarl

After our pitstop we went to Großarl. We have been here one year ago. Again we lived at the Hotel Kristall – or rather in their new holiday apartments at the Alpenpark and in the hotel Tauernhof. As both have made changes and renovations new photos were needed and we nearly only did that. The Tauernhof is family run and has 100 rooms. Additionally there is a huge restaurant and an ample spa. That’s a lot to do if you want to take pictures of all of that. And don’t forget the holiday flats. Those vary in size and partition. In the biggest one 8 people can stay. With two bathrooms and several sleeping rooms there are immediately a number of photo motives. HDR-Meurer wouldn’t be the HDR-Meurer if he would not take HDR-photos. This technique though is more time consuming than normal photography so that each picture requires more

Week 73: Pit Stop

After the kitchen party at the Weinbergschlösschen we went to our old homeland – to Graz – for a pit stop. This week had not been booked so one day we decided to put no further effort in it to sell it but to use it as a break. https://twitter.com/DieMeurers/status/795687507480428544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw So we planed the interior of our new car, which wasn’t that easy. Plans were changed several times. Things were measured, discussed what could fit where, and plans redrawn. Sketches were complemented only to be discarded afterwards. At the moment there exists one version which has not been changed for a couple of days… Let’s see… https://twitter.com/DieMeurers/status/795945045593587712?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Achim tried to get rid of his horrible cold. I have been to another therapist with my shoulder. He thinks that it is an over expansion of the joint capsule. He showed me some exercises that I am doing now. It looks like

Week 72: Kitchenparty at Weinbergschlösschen

Once again we have been at the Hotel Weinbergschlösschen in Oberheimbach at the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. There have been some alterations at the hotel like some additional rooms and a lift. And it was time for a kitchen party again. But one thing after the other. It took us only a couple of hours to get there from Wolfenbüttel so we had time to enjoy the vineyards in autumn and have a walk in the golden sunshine. The next days have been busy with taking hotel photos including the  corresponding and nerve-racking preparations. Four different kind of rooms, two function rooms and the nice terrace have been restaged. And then there was the famous kitchen party … Here you can find the whole story of the kitchenpary with more photos. And the story on Twitter (German). Additionally we have ordered our new waltzing vehicle with pounding hearts. Supposed

Week 71 – Wolfenbüttel: Half-Timbered Houses and More

From the contemplative Northern Harz Foreland we went to Wolfenbüttel. Right into old half-timbered houses. But we did not only admire the beautiful partitions but we also had a look behind the facades and learned about such interesting projects and met many amazing persons that want to make a change and are passionate. That was a really really nice experience and reassuring. Which projects and concepts we experienced you can read Wolfenbüttel – Connection between Tradition and Modern Spirit We stayed in a very nice holiday flat with a very nice kitchen and a stove. We searched further for a waltz vehicle and found something in Wolfenbüttel. And… tadaaaaaa! We booked a holiday. Yes!!! We want to really relax and chill out and are definitely looking forward to it! While Achim still fights his cold I got a biceps tendon irritation which is not only quite painful but also the

Week 70 Northern Harz Foreland

From Tannheimer Tal to the Northern Harz Foreland. What ist there anyway? Never heard of it! A glance to the sat nav reveals ‚former border to the GDR‘. Oh! Yes. Our holiday flat lies only a stone’s throw away from the border facilities in an old railway station building. The flat is huge, has a washing machine and a perfectly equipped kitchen. A welcome change for a hotel room. https://twitter.com/DieMeurers/status/787675124929531905 The first morning we wanted to have breakfast somewhere but in the villages there was no cafe. Everything was darf and quiet. In the fifth village we just wanted to buy some buns and cheese instead but also the corner shop was dark. But it was open though. Here you have to have a very close look. Otherwise you will miss a lot. First learnings! The corner shop was well-assorted and offered nearly everything up to school cones and underwear.

Week 68 and 69: Tannheimer Tal in Autumn

Coming from warm Lisbon we had some difficulties to adapt to the climate. Change from Summer to Winter In Mönchengladbach we emptied out our suitcases, put everything into the washing machine and sorted it our. The thin summer clothes went into a storing box and the thick winter clothes into the suitcase. Very good that we have got vacuum bags. They save a lot of room. Nevertheless winter needs more luggage than summer. Well! That will hopefully change soon, when we get another car. We are still looking for one though. In case you know something… Meeting people and chatting all night In Mönchengladbach we also met Tanja from  Vielweib and could have easily spent another two nights talking to her. Get in touch if you want to meet us when we are around. We love to meet you! Der @hdrmeurer hatte heute großen Hunger 😂 pic.twitter.com/92UyZrEl8p — Tanja (@vielweib)
