Week 58: Back at Tannheimer Valley

Three weeks at the Tannheimer Valley. For the third time we are here. After our visit in winter and our experiences in spring, we now discover the valley in summer. And that is very nice. Not only that we feel very well here. But it is also nice to come back to work to a place. You know your way and do not need to search. You know where you can find what and do not have to think about whether Rot Flüh is a person, a mountain or a river… You have heard it before and can relate to it. Subjects are clear. Some things we have already done in winter times we will do again in the summer. Of course cross country skiing does not work – or walk across a lake. But some hiking trails can be walked in winter and in summer time. Some cable cars

Week 60: Still at the Tannheimer Tal

Our third week at the Tannheimer Valley startet with pure luxury: no moving! We could just stay. No packing! No carloading! No journey… Heaven. About our second week you can read here. But we still had enough to do. Editing photos, writing texts and put storifies together. It never gets boring. Monday we had a special photo shooting. At the new openend climbing and boulder hall at Tannheim. Some ambitious climbers have also been there to test the different routes and problems. And we were among of them. No – not for climbing. Just for watching! Talking about watching! A sunset is always nice to watch. Also at the Tannheimer Tal you can experience some very nice events. Unfortunately the cable car does not go at that time. That would be great. A sunset tour… We also visited the water play ground in Schattwald; also with models. This time they

Week 50 – Spring in Tannheimer Tal

Actually we should have been somewhere else. In Estonia or so. In our ‚tourdates‘ it stated for several months „travel agency in formation“. Well – not really. It was a travel agency which wanted to expand into a new business field. And suddenly we were not needed any more. Very annoying that we have been told on a very short notice. But… There are serial bookers. So the Tannheimer Valley used the window of opportunity and the Meurers experienced the valley in spring. In the winter times we very much liked it. We even have tried cross country skiing. And now in spring everything that was white before is green. And instead of kilometers of slopes there are ways. For biker. For strollers. For hikers. But it is still cosy. A far reaching view. No haste. Being outside. Pure relaxation. Because of a bad weather forecast we started directly after

Tannheimer Valley – Week 3

We had a great time at the Tannheimer Valley. We have been here for three weeks and it was pure luxury for us that we did not have to move. So we could do more… And also in our third week we experienced a lot… Nearly until the last minute of our stay… First we had much work to edit all our events from the week before. I suffered from a lumbago which held me back somehow. Bureaucracy needed some attendance, too. Have you ever tried to cancel a contract? And? Did you succeed with one notice? Or did they keep on charging you as if nothing would have happened??? Exactly. That’s what we experience right now! But then we went on. We started with culinary arts and were allowed to have a look into the crowned pots in the kitchen of Hotel Hohenfels. It is always so nice to

The Meurers try Cross Country Skiing

Cross Country Skiing with higher age? Is it possible? Don’t you have to do this already as a child so that it works out at all? Or do you have to be so fit that you could run a marathon anyway? The picture that we had here in the Tannheimer Valley does answer the last question with ’no‘. At the slopes there are young and old ones, long distance lovers with backpacks including snacks and sportsmen that seem to train for the next Skitrail. But how does it really work? We did the test.  Skis and shoes you can easily rent so that you don’t have to invest much. The shoes are like hiking shoes. They are ankle-high and have a fortification. Otherwise they fit quite comfortable and give you a good hold. The skis are chosen after hight and weight. We learned why from our skiing teacher Andre. We

Tannheimer Valley – Week 2

Also the second week at the Tannheimer Valley was not boring at all – quite the contrary. We went again winter hiking. This time not in high altitude but right away from the hotel. We went to lake Vilsalp (Vilsalpsee) and took the path through the wood where we had to trudge through the snow. On our way there was so much to be seen in the beautiful winter landscape. We again needed twice as long as announced. At the lake we bathed in the sunshine on the huge terrace. For the way back we took a horse-drawn carriage. Slow travel at its best. And food was great by the way. Then we had a social media workshop which has been very productive. We really liked that some of the ideas produced where right away installed and tried out. There is now a social wall for the Tannheimer Valley for

The Meurers at the Skitrail 2016

Those who know us know also that we normally don’t care about sporting events. We don’t own a tv since 2008 and we nearly never attend a sporting event. If we visit a stadium it is because there is a music concert (like Deep Purple live in Concert). But now there was a huge sporting event in Tannheim: The Skitrail 2016. And because waltzing is also about looking beyond one’s nose we went to see it. We have to admit: It was fun. The organisation was perfect. We watched the installation and everything went smoothly and quiet. We have no clue about cross country skiing but the event was even interesting for know-nothings. Friday there was a training with Peter Schlickenrieder. Only by watching it you could take quite a few tipps home. And we actually have seen some spectators doing dry practices. In the late afternoon there was a technique course for children.

Tannheimer Valley in Tirol

After a veeeeeeeery slow snow travel we arrived in the evening at Tannheimer Valley (Tannheimer Tal). Actually we had planned to relax a bit after the exhausting Tourismcamp weekend at Eichstätt and the quite exhausting drive. But then the phone rang and we learned that we could go for a hot air balloon ride. Great! What is a better way to relax than to go on such a ride? And we directly got to know the whole valley from above! After that we went to the view point Zugspitzblick (Zugspitze view). We have not really seen the mountain but some heavy deer. Because there is a wildlife observation. And you get great regional food! The next day we edited photos and blog posts and did some office work. But then the sun was calling us out and went again to the Zugspitzblick. After that we went by car to explore the valley

We went winter hiking

Do you know winter hiking? We never heard of it before. But it’s great! Here at Tannheimer Valley you get a special winter-hiking map and there are a huge amount of winter hiking trails. We had to try them of course. You already know by now that we like to walk and hike and even like to climb a mountain once in a while. And yes we like to walk in snow. I like the sound of snow under your shoes. And now that I own new winter shoes I even like it more. We tried several ways. Two high altitude hiking trails and one directly from the hotel. Both is great. One time you can leave your car at parking lot and start right away from the hotel. We went to the lake Vilsalp  (Vilsalpsee). The street is blocked for cars during the day time (another thing that other destinations could

Hot Air Ballooning and Festival in Tannheimer Valley

The arrival in Tannheimer Valley was a little bit difficult. Because of snowy and icy roads we needed twice as much time as the sat nav predicted and only arrived in the evening at our hotel. Therefore we were planning an easy Monday morning. Like sleeping long and get to know the knew region and so on… But then the phone rang and we were asked whether we could go for a hot air balloon ride the next morning. Did we hear hot air balloon ride??? We joined a hot air balloon festival a couple of years ago and did a ride as well. Therefore we did not need much time to think it over but said yes right away. And we have not been disappointed. At the hot air balloon festival at the Tannheimer Valley a new balloon has been baptized and therefore quite a lot of balloons were
